An Analysis of Pesticides Used in Smith River, and the State’s Tally

Easter lily farmers in Smith River use an enormous amount of “bad actor” pesticides to grow their crops. These are chemicals that have demonstrated significant adverse impacts to the environment, and to human populations.

The first document below is a list of pesticides used in Smith River and their impacts to humans and the environment. The next two documents are “pesticide use reports” for Del Norte County issued by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, from the years 2012 and 2013, the last years that reports are available. Virtually all of the pesticides listed were applied to Easter lily fields.
